The predecessor of the Marine Insurance Club (“MIC”) was a group of young men interested in marine insurance who started in 1978 to gather after work to discuss and exchange views on matters of mutual interest. MIC reached a milestone in its history in 1985 when it was formally incorporated. The members at the time of MIC’s incorporation in 1985 became the founding members.
MIC set out to be and has remained a closely knitted group which aims at providing its members with an intimate environment in which to interact with fellow members of the marine community who take a special interest in marine insurance and related matters. Presently, MIC has over 100 members drawn from various parts of the marine and transport industries such as shipowning & management, marine insurance, broking, marine hull underwriting, protection & indemnity insurance, logistics, average & claims adjusting, law, surveying and other related fields.
Since its incorporation, MIC has organized many academic functions and they have all been very successful. These functions mainly focus on current subjects of concern and interest in the industry. The quality of the speakers is another strong reason for the continuing popularity of academic functions organized by MIC.
MIC is a non-profit making society and the club functions, whether academic or social, are always organized on an “at cost” basis. Throughout the years, MIC has received generous contributions from many sponsors in the maritime industry for its functions and this has helped MIC to keep the fees for participation at economical levels.
With the support of its members, the maritime community and with the objective to enrich knowledge, expertise and experience among members, MIC continues to grow and to gain recognition in the industry. MIC looks at its history with pride and its future with confidence!
